Self-Ligating Braces

Self-ligating braces are similar to traditional metal braces in their material make-up and have the same basic function and appearance. Self-ligating means that the bracket can basically tie itself to the archwire. Self-ligating braces have a built in clip or hinge that can be slid or flipped closed to engage the wire. This clip holds the wire in position without the need for plaque-collecting silver or coloured elastic ties. By using the modern self-ligating brackets we can greatly improve treatment efficiency and patient comfort whilst also reducing the number and frequency of adjustment appointments. The risk of tooth decay or decalcification during treatment is also reduced when these newer bracket designs are used. At Carousel Orthodontics we have embraced this new technology and are pleased to offer self ligating braces routinely for our patients at no additional cost.
